Meredith looked at the application form, then turned it over again. There were so many fields to be completed. How could she filter her experience into a box?
The high school that she had attended no longer exists. And the technical college was also long gone. Meredith had attended university for a time, but had drifted off when the need to work to meet living expenses meant that it would take several years to complete her degree. It had been her intention to return when things improved, but life got busy, and it just didn’t happen.
But now, decades later, an unexpected redundancy had sent her back on the job hunt trail. So her days were spent filling in forms and finding ways to craft a different covering letter to sell herself for jobs which she didn’t really understand. Some terminology used for required attributes was perplexing, and had required google searches.
Maybe what she needed to do was find a way to highlight the key skills she could bring to a workplace based on a lifetime of experience. With a shoulder roll, Meredith picked up her pen and tackled the form.
I’m participating in this blogging challenge for the month of January, which supports starting the year on the “write” track. You can find other posts with #bloganuary and join in the challenge.
