What is your favourite place to go in your city?

It just so happens that I’m writing this from a comfortable lounge in one of the bar areas in the Sydney Opera House. It’s a Sunday afternoon, and my sister and I are about to have an extraordinary experience. We are about to see our first performance of Die Walküre, conducted by Simone Young.

In the last couple of years, we have been attending concerts across a range of musical genres. There is something about simply being in the concert hall of the Opera House that adds to the ambience of the experience, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra never disappoints.

There is nothing quite like the shared anticipation and appreciation of a live performance. Watching the interplay between the conductor and the orchestra, the sense of camaraderie between the musicians, moments when the audience seems to hold its collective breath in response to the performance.

The memories of many magical moments, and the anticipation of more to come, make the Sydney Opera House a favourite place to go to.
