Six Words: Short Story

Written by:

Of course, the most famous example in this style is attributed to Ernest Hemingway:

For Sale.
Baby shoes.
Never worn.

We gave this format a go at our writing group. Similar to our forays into poetry-related exercises, it makes you really think about the words you select.

Open house.
All welcome.
Especially you.

Return ticket.
Free luggage.
Dreams extra.

You left.
I stayed.
Life began.

Silent night.
Sky ablaze.
Moon rising.

Have you ever written a six word short story? You can find some more examples here.

This is such a fun concept that really stretches your imagination. I did a similar post on this topic a few years ago titled “Six Word Memoir” . You might enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing the link to your post – there is a particular challenge around such concise communication.
