Itโs a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things you lack.

It is possibly self-preservation that draws our attention to things that arenโt going so well, or to dwell on things that might go wrong. Shifting the focus towards what we do have instead can provide a level of satisfaction and joy that is hard to describe.
I am grateful for so many things in my life. These include family, friends, pets, music, the joy I find in the natural world, and the simple pleasure of having a good laugh.
When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.

For about three years, I have been taking note of three things that Iโm grateful for each day. This was a tip suggested by one of my oldest friends, and she said it during one of the darkest times in my life when it was hard to see any light. I have kept this habit and there are recurring themes to my gratitude.
This simple habit brightens my outlook, and for that alone, I am grateful.
What are you grateful for?

I have a montage of gratitude photos that I put up in my bedroom that I can see before I go to sleep and when I awake every morning. ๐

It is wonderful to see this reminder to accentuate the positive. My writing students must all keep a kind of diary that is called ‘The Book of Three Good Things”. It’s very simple. All they need to do (as far as this matter is concerned) is make a note every night of three good things that happened during the day. Sometimes people have said – can we do five? The answer is no. Three is the magic number here. Once a man asked if he could keep two books, one good and one bad. Again the answer was no. Rules are rules.

Thank you for sharing this, Carmel. And I love how the rules need to be followed here. Three is the perfect number for this exercise, as it makes you think about what you are really grateful for throughout the course of the day.
