Itโ€™s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things you lack.

It is possibly self-preservation that draws our attention to things that arenโ€™t going so well, or to dwell on things that might go wrong. Shifting the focus towards what we do have instead can provide a level of satisfaction and joy that is hard to describe.

I am grateful for so many things in my life. These include family, friends, pets, music, the joy I find in the natural world, and the simple pleasure of having a good laugh.

When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.

For about three years, I have been taking note of three things that Iโ€™m grateful for each day. This was a tip suggested by one of my oldest friends, and she said it during one of the darkest times in my life when it was hard to see any light. I have kept this habit and there are recurring themes to my gratitude.

This simple habit brightens my outlook, and for that alone, I am grateful.

What are you grateful for?
